OSC Terry Stilman was dispatched at 0300 Saturday morning to the scene of a two train collision. GAEPD was also on-scene. Several locomotives, a tank car of lubricating oil and several other rail cars were involved. The locomotives lost approximately 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel and the tankcar of lubricating oil lost approximately 8,000 gallons. The lead locomotive initially caught on fire at the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished by the automatic fire suppression system on the locomotive. CSX hired a contractor to recover the oil and remove contaminated soil and ballast. Drainage features leading to an unnamed creek approximately 50 yards away from the derailment were diked by CSX to prevent discharge of oil during recovery.
