Lenape Manufacturing Co. is a former metal fabrication and machining company located in Perkasie, PA. Due to former operations, contamination was found in the groundwater underneath the Site. The property owner conducted a cleanup at the Site according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) requirements, which included providing treatment units to residential wells. Recently PADEP has provided a more permanent solution by connecting those residents to a public water supply. EPA is investigating the possibility of TCE-contaminated vapor intrusion, in association with the known contaminated groundwater.
During the week of October 26 – October 30, EPA representatives conducted a door-to-door outreach as a follow up to vapor intrusion sub-slab sampling request letters sent to 20 residents on October 15. The sampling request letters were sent to those residences where historic groundwater sampling data indicateds that TCE-contaminated soil-gas may exist. Approximately 65 Site-specific fact sheets were distributed to the community, not just the 20 targeted residences, which provided a description of the VI assessment, a brief Site background and EPA contact information.
On November 16, 2009 EPA will start collecting air samples from the sub-slabs at residences where a "Consent for Access to Property" form was signed. Fifteen out of twenty targeted residences are currently listed for this sampling event.
