On 12-10-2009 at approximately 2:00 pm local time, an above-ground storage tank (AST) at the Calumet Lubricants facility located in Shreveport, LA caught fire due to unknown causes. Calument Lubricants made a report to the NRC (#925826). The 5,000 barrel AST was reported to contain asphalt at a low volume level. The plant's fire brigade was responding to the incident.

Due to facility's location near a populated area and the potential of the plume producing a inhalation hazard, the R6 Phone Duty Officer, OSC Rhotenberry, requested that OSC Hayes respond to scene for a quick assessment of the situation. OSC Hayes was nearby and could quickly respond.
