On March 4, 2010, a worker at the BP Station (formerly Amoco) located at the intersection of Gaskins Road and Patterson Avenue discovered that the tank pit containing three underground storage tanks had filled with gasoline. The estimated amount spilled is approximately 11,000 gallons of regular unleaded gasoline with 10% ethanol content.
The BP Station is located direectly over Cabin Creek, a tribuatary to Deep Run Creek, which flows to the James River.
On March 12, 2010, EPA was requested to take over cleanup actions because the responsible party's conractor failed in their obligation to control the source from migrating offsite.
The OSC requested a ceiling of $100k from the USCG National Pollution Funds Center for take actions necessary to mitigate the gasoline which entered or threatens to enter Cabin Creek.
