Duty Officer was contacted by ATSDR Representative Bob Safay who received word of a mercury release at a private residence in Jasper, GA. The owner reportedly broke a mercury thermometer in the oven. The health department advised the resident to double bag the waste materials and ventilate the area. Duty Officer dispatched OSC Jose Negron to perform an assessment of the residence. OSC Negron utilized the Lumex to detect mercury vapors throughout the house. Values ranged from non detect to 3 ug/m3, with an average reading in the vicinity of the oven of 1 ug/m3. OSC Negron recommended continued ventilation of the area.
