EPA received a report from NC DENR RCRA regarding a report that they received from Mr. Charlie Hoss reporting that a injury occurred due to an explosion from a individual cutting (ethylene oxide) cylinders Individual (Dave Moore) was transported to Baptist Memorial. No local emergency response personnel was notified, Mr. Moore reported to the hospital that his injuries were sustained due to a propane tank accident. Ethylene is a carcinigen and there are residential homes within approximately 250 feet from site. It is believe that there are about 150 cylinders stored on the property of which some are buried. It is believed the cylinders orginated from the U.S. Navy and may contain ethylene oxide. OSC Ken Rhame and USCG Gulf Strike Team has been deployed to assess and conduct air monitoring of the property.
