At approximately 11:00am on October 31, 2011 in Oak Creek, WI, just south of Milwuakee, a lakefront bluff along Lake Michigan gave way, releasing a variety of materials into Lake Michigan. The land houses a power generating station owned by WE Energies, Materials that include, but may not be limited to, native soils, coal/fly ash, sea/land containers, road vehicles, construction vehicles, and fuel containers were released into Lake Michigan. The US Coast Guard(USCG), the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), and EPA are overseeing WE Energies' clean-up. USCG issued Notices of Federal Interest to WE Energies (as the facility/property owner), URS (as an operator), and Metropolitan Environmental (as an operator).
