The Rownd and Sons, Inc property is the former site of a fruit basket manufacturing facility. The current use of the property is the storage of power transformers and other materials. South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) referred the Site to US EPA Region 4 and the Emergency Response and Removal Branch to request a removal site evaluation (RSE). The request stems from soil contamination found during a Phase II investigation conducted by the City of Dillon which shows PCB contamination above Regional Removal Management Levels (RMLs).
ERRB is currently undertaking an emergency action to stabilize the stored containers. An RSE is also being performed to determine if a removal action is warranted.
