On September 10, 2013, the Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) requested assistance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in assessing hazards from a manufacturing complex that caught fire on September 8, 2013 (NRC#1059783). The site is located at 1545 Van Buren Street, Marion County, Indianapolis, Indiana, and was the location of the former Holcomb & Hoke Manufacturing Company.

Response officials requested assistance with assessment of hazardous materials remaining on-site after the fire. Drums were observed inside damaged structures and buildings reportedly had asbestos-containing materials (ACM).

On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) Shelly Lam mobilized to the site on September 10, 2013, to meet with the IMPD. EPA began emergency response actions on September 11, 2013. Actions included sampling drums, air, and suspected ACM; and relocating drums and other containers into a Conex box for future removal actions.
