The Site is the location of a former fertilizer production plant operated by the Virginia Carolina Chemical Company (VCC). The Site which formerly occupied approximately 24 acres began manufacturing fertilizer in the 1890’s and continued until 1961.

The original plant structures no longer exist. Most of the former VCC property was located within the current I-165 corridor. ExxonMobile is the corporate successor to the VCC Company and has signed an Administrative Order on Consent for performing the removal action.
