On June 13, 2014 a pill-bottle sized amount (≈ 4lbs) of mercury was spilled in the garage of a home in Buford, GA. The home owner discovered the mercury a day or two later and attempted a cleanup. However, EPA was asked for assistance in screening the home due to the fact that children were going to be returning to the home later in the week. OSC Andrews and START mobilized to the Site on June 19 to conduct the assessment. Elevated levels of mercury vapor were detected throughout the home as high as 10,000 ƞg/m3. The homeowner was unable to conduct the cleanup and ERRS (WRS) was mobilized to assist in the cleanup.
