A family moved into the home last Friday, 7/18/14. While moving in, the couples two kids were found in the basement of the home playing with Hg near a floor drain. The father vacuumed the mercury in the basement with a shop vac, then continued to vacuum the remainder of the home. The mother called poison control to inquire about the mercury and was instructed to leave the home. Poison control called the NC Public Health. NC Public Health called EPA for assistance. EPA is coordinating activities with NC Public Health, DHHS and the home owners.
