2.1.1 Narrative
Kinder Morgan created NRC Report #1102954 on Dec 8, 2014. The report stated that gasoline had discharged from a 26 inch pipeline due to unknown causes. OSC Booth mobilized to the site on Dec 9, 2014 to conduct oversight of the damaged pipeline repair and remediation.
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
Crews cleared areas around the damaged pipeline to make repairs. A total of 7,389 gallons of gasoline have been recovered from the excavated area around the pipeline. Contaminated soils are being loaded into lined roll off containers for disposal. Test pits were excavated between the known leak and the tributary to check for signs of migration. No gasoline has been observed in the test pits near the unnamed tributary. Air quality is constantly being monitored for benzene and VOCs. Media attention has been moderate.
SC DHEC will continue to oversee repair and remediation of soils.
