2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section

The following activities took place during this reporting period:

  • ERRS continued to load out trucks of solidified sludge for disposal.  During this reporting period, a total of 52 trucks were loaded out.  This completed the load out of solidified material from the Site.  The area used for the solidification was also pumped into a vac truck and sent off for disposal.
  • ERRS completed demolition of all ASTs from the Site.
  • The east and west containment areas as well as two other smaller containment areas were demolished during this timeframe.  This was done for two reasons, one is that the concrete was very thin in some areas and had significant staining from materials at the Site; the other is that leaving the containment areas in place would pose a safety hazard as they fill up rapidly during rainfall events.
  • During the week of Jan 24, START conducted soil sampling in areas impacted during the removal action and in other areas that may have been impacted during Site operations.  Twenty-five (25) samples were taken at 0-2’ depths and sent off to a lab for analysis for SVOCs, VOCs, PCBs, and metals.  Results of the sampling showed no levels above EPA Removal Screening Levels (RSLs) except for one sample that was above the RSL but below the RAL for TCE.  The area around that sample was removed and sent off-site for disposal as a precaution.
  • ERRS has also begun Site restoration activities.  To date, two of the smaller containment areas were filled with gravel and the Site and warehouse have been swept.

  2.2 Planning Section
    2.2.1 Anticipated Activities

    2.2.1.1 Planned Response Activities

During the next reporting period ERRS the following activities are planned:

  • The former east and west containment areas are going to be filled in with a clay layer and then a layer of gravel and sloped towards a storm drain at the back of the property;
  • Any remaining Site restoration activities will also be completed;
  • ERRS will prepare for demobilization from the Site.

    2.2.1.2 Next Steps

   Beyond the tasks listed above, no further activities are planned at the Site.
