2.1.1 Narrative
Contaminated sediment removal activities were completed in grids SA5A-1 and SA5A-2 between Dutton Street and Walnut Street. Excavation operations were suspended on April 10 due to heavy rainfall and will continue once creekwater is pumped out of the SA5A excavation area. SA5A-7 will not be excavated due to low levels of PCBs found during pre-construction investigatory sampling and proximity to the Walnut Street bridge support structure. Staging areas were established in SA3A and SA1B&C.
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
From March 30 to April 12, EPA and ERRS contractors conducted the following activities:
Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Removed gravel, graded and seeded access roadways on south and east ends of staging pad;
- Removed aggregate stockpiles for use in SA5A backfilling operations;
- Made repairs to mobile waste water treatment plant;
- Set up work area perimeter air monitoring for dust; and
- Received contaminated sediments from SA5A dredging operations.
Site Activities - SA5A
- Maintained engineering controls and water control systems around excavation area;
- Mobilized specialized excavation equipment and GPS control system to support dredging operations;
- Established work area perimeter air monitoring for dust;
- Completed contaminated sediment dredging operations in grids SA5A-1 and SA5A-2; and
- Loaded out contaminated sediments and transport to John Street staging pad.

Project Management Activities
- Continued weekly progress meetings with City of Kalamazoo, including property owners upon request;
- Conducted pre-construction sampling and surveying in SA1B&C;
- Continued development of draft area specific restoration plans in SA5A, SA3A, SA1B & SA1C;
- Obtained consent to access from remaining property owners in SA1B & SA1C;
- Continued discussions with property owners in SA1A regarding consent to access;
- Finalized revisions to Traffic Control Plan, SA5/Axtell Creek Technical Memo, and Quality Assurance Plan (posted on website);
- Continued revisions to Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Plan; and
