2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section
    2.1.1 Narrative
Contaminated sediment removal activities were suspended in SA5A between Dutton Street and Walnut Street due to heavy rainfall. Limited site preparations continued in SA3A and SA1B&C. The crew will return and excavation operations will continue once creekwater is pumped out of the SA5A excavation area. 

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
From April 13 to April 26, EPA and ERRS contractors conducted the following activities:

Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
-Treatment of approximately 111,150 gallons of contact water from staging pad sump with mobile wastewater treatment plant;

Site Activities - SA5A
- Maintained engineering controls around excavation area during heavy rainfall & high water level conditions;

Site Activities - SA3A
- Continued staging area and access road preparation on north & south banks of creek;
- Staged 18" diameter discharge piping for bypass system construction; and
- Established access control at E. Michigan Avenue entrance.

Site Activities - SA1B&C
- Completed staging area and access road preparation;
- Completed construction of alternate parking area for businesses near access to SA1C; and
- Cleared SA1C staging area of debris and scrap metal.

Project Management Activities
- Continued meetings with property owners upon request;
- Started pre-construction surveying in SA1A (suspended due to high water levels);
- Continued development of draft area-specific restoration plans in SA5A, SA3A, SA1B & SA1C;
- Continued discussions regarding consent to access from remaining property owners in SA1A;
- Coordinated with Consumers Energy to remove trees entangled in power lines in SA1C; and
- Finalized preliminary SA3A Technical Memo (posted to website).

2.1.3 Enforcement Activities, Identity of Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs)

  2.2 Planning Section
    A summary of removal activities that are anticipated to take place from April 27 to May 10 include:
 
Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Continue treatment of contact water from the staging pad sump with mobile wastewater treatment plant;
- Continue receiving contaminated sediments from SA5A dredging operations; and 
- Commence load out of solidified sediments for transport and disposal at approved landfill facilities.

Site Activities - SA5A
- Maintain engineering controls and dust/noise monitoring around excavation area;
- Continue contaminated sediment dredging operations in grids SA5A-3 to SA5A-6; and
- Continue backfilling excavated grids SA5A-1 to SA5A-6 according to Restoration Plan.

Site Activities - SA3A
- Mobilize and construct creekwater bypass pumping system; and
- Continue preparations for installation of sheet pile coffer dams and isolation (groundwater) dewatering system.

Project Management Activities
- Continue weekly progress meetings with City of Kalamazoo and property owners upon request;
- Continue development of area specific restoration plans in SA5A, SA3A, SA1B & SA1C;
- Obtain consent to access from remaining property owners in SA1A;
- Complete preliminary surveying in SA1A;
- Conduct pre-removal investigatory core sampling in SA1A, SA1B & SA1C; and
- Continue planning for removal operations in SA1C & SA1B.
