2.1.1 Narrative
Contaminated sediment removal and backfilling activities resumed in SA5A after delays due to heavy rainfall and flooding. Construction of the creek bypass pump system continued and support equipment/materials were moved from SA5A to SA3A in preparation for excavation operations.
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
From April 27 to May 10, EPA and ERRS contractors conducted the following activities:
Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Solidified and loaded out 1167.29 tons of non-TSCA (< 50ppm PCBs) contaminated sediments for disposal at C&C Landfill in Marshall, Michigan;
- Treated 10,500 gallons of potentially contaminated contact water in EPA's mobile wastewater treatment plant, for a total of 841,362 gallons treated to date; and
- Continued work area perimeter air monitoring for dust.
Site Activities - SA5A
- Maintained engineering controls and water control systems around excavation area;
- Continued work area perimeter air monitoring for dust;
- Completed contaminated sediment dredging operations in grids SA5A-3 to SA5A-6; and
- Loaded out contaminated sediments and transport to John Street staging pad; and
- Completed backfilling in grids SA5A-1 to SA5A-2 according to Restoration Plan.
