2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section
    2.1.1 Narrative
Temporary restoration activities were completed in SA5A. Contaminated sediment removal and backfilling operations commenced in SA3A, and will be completed in the next reporting period.

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
From May 24 to June 7, EPA and ERRS contractors conducted the following activities:

Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Treated 73,787 gallons of potentially contaminated contact water in EPA's mobile wastewater treatment plant, for a total of 915,149 gallons treated to date; 
- Received contaminated sediments excavated from SA3A; and
- Continued work area perimeter air monitoring for dust.

Site Activities - SA5A
- Completed temporary restoration activities, including re-construction of perimeter fencing;
- Conducted re-grading activities in parking lot and along creek banks; and
- Re-opened perimeter parking lots.

Site Activities - SA3A
- Completed contaminated sediment dredging operations in grids SA3A-1 to SA3A-6;
- Loaded out contaminated sediments and transport to John Street staging pad;
- Completed backfilling in grids SA3A-1 to SA3A-6 according to Restoration Plan; and
- Conducted work area perimeter air monitoring for dust.

Site Activities - SA1B&C
- Mobilized equipment and materials to SA1C staging area; and
- Began preparations for construction of creekwater bypass pumping system discharge pipelines.

Project Management Activities
- Continued weekly progress meetings with City of Kalamazoo, including property owners upon request;
- Obtained access to additional property needed for bypass pumping system pipelines adjacent to SA1B;
- Completed a draft area specific restoration plan for SA3A and shared with property owners for input; and
- Continued development of draft Technical Memo for dredging operations in SA1B & SA1C.

  2.2 Planning Section
    A summary of removal activities that are anticipated to take place from June 8 to June 21 include:
 
Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Continue treatment of contact water from the staging pad sump with mobile wastewater treatment plant; and
- Load out and transport contaminated sediments for disposal.

Site Activities - SA3A
- Maintain engineering and environmental monitoring/controls around excavation area;
- Complete excavation of contaminated sediments from grids SA3A-7 & SA3A-8;
- Complete backfilling of grids SA3A-7 & SA3A-8 according to Restoration Plan; and
- Begin demobilization of equipment, materials and supplies to SA1C staging area.

Site Activities - SA1B & SA1C
- Begin construction of creekwater bypass pumping system;
- Begin installation of sheet pile coffer dams to isolate excavation area;
- Begin construction of isolation de-watering (ground water extraction) system; and
- Mobilize equipment, materials and supplies to staging area in preparation for contaminated sediment removal operations.

Project Management Activities
- Continue weekly progress meetings with City of Kalamazoo, including property owners upon request;
- Continue development of area specific restoration plans in SA1B & SA1C;
- Obtain approval of area specific restoration plan for SA5A and begin restoration work (planting) if possible;
- Finalize area specific restoration plan for SA3A in consultation with property owners;
- Obtain consent to access from remaining property owners in SA1A; and
- Complete Technical Memorandum for removal operations in SA1C & SA1B and share with property owners.
