2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section
    2.1.1 Narrative
Excavation of contaminated sediments was completed in SA1A-3 to SA1A-9. Backfilling and reconstruction of the creek channel and banks are underway and will be completed in the next two weeks.  Demobilization of equipment, supplies and materials from SA1A to the John Street command post for decontamination, wipe sampling and demobilization from the site will begin in the next reporting period.

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
From September 14 to September 27, EPA and ERRS contractors conducted the following activities:

Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Treated 10,551 gallons of potentially contaminated contact water in EPA's mobile wastewater treatment plant, for a total of 1,106,135 gallons treated to date;
- Received contaminated sediments excavated from SA1A;
- Loaded out 2,213.70 tons of non-TSCA contaminated sediments for transport & disposal; and
- Conducted work area perimeter air monitoring for dust.

Site Activities - SA1A
- Excavated contaminated sediments from grids SA1A-3 to SA1A-9;
- Loaded out contaminated sediments for transport to John Street staging area;
- Received and stockpiled aggregrates to support backfilling operations;
- Completed backfilling of base layer (rip rap) in grids SA1A-3 and SA1A-9;
- Removed isolation (groundwater) de-watering system; and
- Conducted work area perimeter air monitoring for dust.

Project Management Activities

  2.2 Planning Section
    Removal activities anticipated to take place from September 28 to October 11 include the following:
 
Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Continue treatment of contact water from the staging pad sump with mobile wastewater treatment plant;
- Decontaminate equipment and materials prior to wipe sampling and demobilization from site;
- Complete load out and transfer of TSCA-contaminated sediments to approved disposal facilities; and
- Conduct work area perimeter air monitoring for dust.

Site Activities - SA1A
- Complete final backfilling of grids (river rock and bank run) SA1A-1 to SA1A-9 according to Restoration Plan;
- Remove staging and support area equipment, materials and supplies;
- Demobilize isolation (groundwater) dewatering system;
- Remove an deemobilize creek bypass pumping system;
- Remove and demobilize upstream and downstream sheet pile coffer dams; and
- Complete bank stabilization, restoration and temporary seeding.

Site Activities - SA1B
- Demobilize staging and support area equipment, materials and supplies.

Project Management Activities
- Continue weekly progress meetings with City of Kalamazoo, including property owners upon request;
- Continue weekly landscaping maintenance & irrigation in Rose Park;
- Continue drafting final project report;
- Finalize plans to reconstruct section of KVRT boardwalk removed for the project; and
- Finalize site specific restoration plans for SA1A and bypass pump staging pad in SA1B.
