2. Current Activities
  2.1 Operations Section
    2.1.1 Narrative
All equipment, supplies and materials were removed from SA1A & SA1B support areas. Final restoration of work areas is underway. The John Street staging pad is being removed and final preparations are underway to demobilize trailers, EPA's mobile wastewater treatment plant, storage containers and offices from the site.

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
From October 12 to October 25, EPA and ERRS contractors conducted the following activities:

Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Treated 625 gallons of potentially contaminated contact water in EPA's mobile wastewater treatment plant, for a total of 1,125,924 gallons treated during the entire project;  
- Removed filtration media and cleaned out EPA's mobilize wastewater treatment plant in preparation for demobilization;
- Removed 10,800 gallons of potentially contaminated contact water from the staging pad sump via tanker truck;
- Began dismantlement of staging pad for removal;
- Loaded out timber mats for disposal at approved landfill facility; and
- Decontaminated, wipe sampled and demobilized heavy equipment no longer needed for the project.

Site Activities - SA1A
- Completed removal of staging and support area equipment, materials and supplies;
- Re-constructed sections of KRVT boardwalk removed to make room for bypass pumping system;
- Replaced light post removed for construction activities;
- Re-opened KRVT (recreational trail) between King Highway and Harrison Street for pedestrian use; and
- Completed bank stabilization, restoration and temporary seeding.

Site Activities - SA1B
- Completed removal of staging and support area equipment, materials and supplies; and
- Re-constructed, stabilized, and temporarily restored area with grass seed & straw.

Project Management Activities
- Continued weekly progress meetings with City of Kalamazoo, including property owners upon request;
- Conducted landscaping maintenance & irrigation in Rose Park;
- Solicited bids for repair of concrete & asphalt surfaces impacted during construction activities in SA5A, SA3A, SA1B & SA1A;
- Solicited bid for final restoration work according to area-specific restoration plans in SA1A & SA5A; and
- Continued development of project final report.

    Removal activities anticipated to take place from October 26 to November 8 include the following:
 
Site Activities - John Street Staging Area
- Remove remaining contact water from the staging pad sump with tanker trucks (if necessary);
- Remove staging pad for transport and disposal at approved landfill facility;
- Demobilize EPA's mobile wastewater treatment plant and support trailer/equipment;
- Decontaminate, wipe sample and demobilize remaining heavy equipment; and
- Demobilize storage container, trailers and offices.

Site Activities - SA1A & B
- Restore vegetation according to area-specific restoration plan; and
- Replace and repair impacted sidewalk, curb and paved parking lots.

Site Activities - SA5A
- Conduct final restoration activities on east bank according to area-specific restoration plan; and
- Replace and repair impacted sidewalk sections.

Site Activities - SA3A
- Replace and repair impacted sidewalk, street curbs and entrance aprons.

Project Management Activities
- Continue progress meetings with City of Kalamazoo, and property owners, as appropriate;
- Continue development of project final report; and
- Commence project close-out activities.
