U.S. EPA conducted a site assessment on December 11, 2008, and found the presence of PCBs, asbestos, and hazardous wastes on Site. Since the U.S. EPA site assessment, there has been continuous activity at the site including: theft of metal from the site (including the site fence), asbestos contamination on facility floors from the metal stealing, and unknown persons actually building structures inside the building with the PCB-contaminated wood blocks.

On Friday, October 24, 2008, U.S. EPA contractors continued removing the PCB-contaminated wood block flooring from the fifth floor of the building and stockpiling the material outside. Analytical results were received for the second sample collected from the solids remaining on the third floor of the building. U.S. EPA contractors cut a hole into the AST that was inaccessible. Approximately 150 gallons of unknown liquid are stored in the AST. U.S. EPA contractors also began removing debris from the truck ramp area in hopes to find the drums and containers left by MDEQ for disposal. One drum holding waste materials has been discovered so far in the debris; however, the loader being used is not capable of further separating the debris and the contractor is mobilizing an excavator to deal with this issue.
