On April 16th 2015, the State of Mississippi (MS) requested EPA On Scene Coordinator (OSC) assistance for an estimated 100 bbls spill of light crude oil from a wellhead in Collins, MS. The potentially responsible party (PRP) is MS Resources. The response is organized according to the National Incident Management System (NIMS) with Unified Command constituting the EPA OSC, the MS Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) State On Scene Coordinator (SOSC) and the PRP. The PRP is providing the necessary resources to respond.

The Covington County EMA Director and Collins Fire Chief are acting as Public Information Officers and conducting community outreach. The MS Oil and Gas Board is acting as a technical consult. The United States Coast Guard Gulf StrIke Team is assisting the EPA OSC with operations and safety oversight.

The spill migrated down a hillside into Oakey Woods Creek for approximately 2 miles. Migration was intensified by a 1" rain event during the spill. In addition, a nearby resident self evacuated for several hours due to odor. The source of the spill is secured. An additional 1" rain event is expected during the night.
